Published:

Crispy Masala Puri is a popular snack in India that is enjoyed by people of all ages. It is made by deep-frying small, flat rounds of dough that are seasoned with a flavorful blend of spices, such as cumin, coriander, and red chilli powder.

In many parts of India, Crispy Masala Puri is a common street food that is sold by vendors in small stalls or food carts. It is often served with a variety of chutneys or dips, such as mint chutney, tamarind chutney, or yogurt-based dips.

It is also a popular snack during festive occasions and celebrations, such as Diwali and Holi. It is often served as part of a larger meal or as a standalone appetizer or snack.

Aside from its delicious taste and versatility, Crispy Masala Puri is also significant in India because of its cultural and social importance. It is a snack that is shared among friends and family and is often associated with good times and happy memories. In many ways, it represents the warmth and hospitality that is so integral to Indian culture.

Crispy Masala Puri contains wheat flour and spices, which are both generally safe for most people to consume. Some individuals may have allergies or intolerances to certain ingredients. Those with celiac disease or gluten intolerance should avoid wheat flour and opt for gluten-free alternatives.

People with high blood pressure or heart disease should be cautious about consuming too much salt, which is often present in the spice mix used to flavour Crispy Masala Puri.

Here is the amazing recipe for Crispy Masala Puri:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (maida)
  • 1/4 cup semolina (sooji)
  • 1/2 teaspoon carom seeds (ajwain)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds (jeera)
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder (lal mirch powder)
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder (haldi)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Water, as needed
  • Oil, for frying

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, semolina, carom seeds, cumin seeds, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, and salt.
  2. Add water little by little and knead the dough until it forms a smooth and firm ball. Cover the dough and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
  3. After the dough has rested, divide it into small lemon-sized balls.
  4. Take one ball of dough and roll it out into a thin circle using a rolling pin. Repeat with the remaining dough balls.
  5. Using a fork, prick the rolled-out dough circles all over to prevent them from puffing up while frying.
  6. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
  7. Once the oil is hot, carefully drop a few of the rolled-out dough circles into the oil and fry until they turn golden brown and crispy.
  8. Remove the fried puris from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  9. Repeat with the remaining rolled-out dough circles.
  10. Once all the puris are fried and cooled down, store them in an airtight container.

To serve, sprinkle some chaat masala or sev on top of the Crispy Masala Puri and enjoy it as a tasty snack with chutney or dip of your choice.
