V2 Retail, initially established in 2001 under the name Vishal Megamart Ltd or Vishal Retail, underwent significant ownership changes over the years. In 2010, founder Ram Chandra Agarwal sold the financially troubled company to TPG and a Shriram Group entity for INR 70 crore. Subsequently, after eight years, the company was once more transferred, this time to a private equity consortium comprising Partners Group and Kedaara Capital, in a deal valued at over INR 5,000 crore, as reported by Forbes India.

Subsequently, the company underwent a name change to become V2 Retail Ltd.

Currently, V2 Retail boasts a presence of over 105 retail outlets spanning across 17 states in India. This includes five stores in Delhi-NCR, 24 in Bihar, 26 in Uttar Pradesh, 17 in Odisha, 6 in Assam, 7 in Jharkhand, 5 in Karnataka, 4 in Uttarakhand, 3 in Madhya Pradesh, and 2 in Goa. Furthermore, the retailer maintains one store in each of the following states: Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Jammu and Kashmir, Meghalaya, and West Bengal, as indicated on the company’s website.
