Falsa sharbat is a refreshing and delicious drink made from a fruit called “falsa” which is rich in antioxidants, such as anthocyanins, which are known to protect the body against harmful free radicals and reduce the risk of chronic diseases like cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. It is a good source of vitamins and minerals, including Vitamin C, Vitamin A, iron, potassium, and calcium, all of which are essential for maintaining good health. It has low calories which makes it a perfect option to alternate the high-sugar soft-drinks and stay hydrated in the summers.
It is popular throughout South-east Asia and tastes incredible. Here’s a simple recipe to make it:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup falsa (washed and cleaned)
- 4 cups water
- 1/2 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
- Juice of 1 lemon
- Mint leaves for garnish
Instructions:
- Add the washed and cleaned falsa in a pot with 4 cups of water.
- Boil the falsa and water mixture on medium-high heat for 10-15 minutes or until the falsa is soft.
- Remove the pot from the heat and let the mixture cool down.
- Once the mixture is cool, strain it through a fine mesh strainer to remove the falsa seeds and pulp.
- Add sugar and lemon juice to the strained falsa juice and mix well. Adjust the sugar to taste.
- Chill the sherbet in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
- Once chilled, serve the falsa sherbet in glasses with a few mint leaves for garnish.
