  • 1 tbsp of ghee or oil
  • 1 tsp of mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp of cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp of urad dal
  • 1 tsp of chana dal
  • 1 tbsp of chopped ginger
  • 1 green chili, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 medium tomato, chopped
  • Salt, to taste
  • 2 cups of water
  • 2 tbsp of lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp of fresh cilantro, chopped
  • A pinch of turmeric powder

Instructions:

  1. In a large saucepan, heat the ghee or oil over medium heat.
  2. Add mustard seeds and allow them to crackle.
  3. Add cumin seeds, urad dal, and chana dal and fry for about 30 seconds until golden brown.
  4. Add chopped ginger and green chili and cook for another 30 seconds.
  5. Add the chopped onion and cook until it turns translucent.
  6. Add the chopped tomato and cook until it’s soft and mushy.
  7. Stir in the quinoa and salt, and cook for 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  8. Add water and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce heat to low and cover the saucepan.
  9. Cook until the water is absorbed and the quinoa is fully cooked, about 15-20 minutes.
  10. Stir in lemon juice and chopped cilantro.
  11. Serve hot and enjoy the delicious and nutritious flavors of Quinoa Upma.
