Patanjali Foods unveils 14 new products and plans IPOs as part of premiumization strategy

As part of its ongoing premiumization strategy, Patanjali Foods made a notable move on Friday by introducing a total of 14 new products. These latest offerings cover a wide range of segments, including nutraceuticals, health biscuits, Nutrela millet-based cereals, and dry fruit.

During the press conference, Baba Ramdev, the head of the group, announced that within the next few years, two to three companies from the group, including Patanjali Ayurved and Patanjali Wellness, will initiate their initial public offerings (IPOs).

In September of the previous year, the company had announced its intention to list Patanjali Ayurved, Patanjali Wellness, Patanjali Lifestyle, and Patanjali Medicine within a five-year timeframe, with the objective of achieving a market capitalization of INR 5 trillion for the group.

Baba Ramdev expressed his ambition to achieve a turnover of INR 1 trillion for the group within a span of five years.

Sanjeev Asthana, the CEO of Patanjali Foods, outlined the company’s objective of deriving 80 percent of its profits from fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), while the remaining portion would come from its edible oil business.

With a focus on the Indian sports nutrition industry, the company is placing its bets on expansion and anticipates a robust compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 18 percent. It envisions the industry to reach a value of INR 8,000 crore by FY28.

The company has launched Nutrela Sports with six products such as powders, capsules for vitamins, and supplements, it said in its release.

As part of its product expansion, Patanjali Foods has launched Nutrela MaxxMillets, marking the beginning of its series of millet-based products. Furthermore, the company has introduced ragi biscuits along with a variety of digestive biscuits to cater to the diverse preferences of its customers.

“The health biscuits category in India holds a 5 per cent share in the Indian biscuits market of nearly INR 45,000 crore. The company, backed by its large manufacturing and distribution infrastructure, has ambitious plans to occupy a 10 per cent share in this category by the end of this year,” Patanjali Foods said in its release.

Patanjali Foods’ biscuit business has an extensive presence, encompassing over 1 million retail outlets. As part of their initial strategy, the company aims to distribute the new products in more than 100,000 supermarkets, modern-format stores, and high-quality A-class outlets.

“The full-scale launch of these health biscuits is projected to improve the margin profile of the biscuits business,” it said.

Patanjali Foods is determined to expand its branded dry fruit business, with the goal of reaching a market value of INR 1,000 crore within a span of five years.

Uttar Pradesh expands liquor availability: 449 new vends to open in urban areas

In an effort to generate more revenue, Uttar Pradesh (UP) plans to introduce 449 new liquor shops in the coming weeks. The allocation of permits for Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL), beer, and model shops will be conducted through an online lottery on June 20. Once this phase is completed, UP will see a significant boost in its retail vend count, reaching nearly 30,000 establishments.

The excise department has set its sights on significantly higher revenue from retail license fees. In the previous fiscal year, licensing of 29,522 retail vends generated approximately INR 3,000 crore. However, this time around, the department aims to achieve revenue of INR 3,600 crore.

According to officials, the recent surge in urbanization and the emergence of new residential areas has prompted the authorities to establish 449 additional shops. As a result, 55 out of the 75 districts in the state will witness the opening of new shops. Notably, Lucknow, Bahraich, Mau, Unnao, Sultanpur, Kanpur, and Ayodhya will experience a substantial increase in their number of outlets, ranging from 15 to 23, owing to the rapid expansion of their urban boundaries.

Officials have stated that the policy has been amended to include a provision for setting up an additional 2% of shops compared to the previous year. This decision was made in response to the rising demand and to ensure that the increased need for shops is met effectively.

Following the surveys conducted, it has been decided that Lucknow will witness the establishment of 23 new shops. As a result, residents residing in and around Sushant Golf City, Mahigawan in Itaunja, Revari in Kakori, Kanjakheda in Sarojininaga, Mastemau in Mohanlalganj, Mansarovar Yojna in Aashiana, and Jiyamau will experience increased convenience, as they will no longer have to travel long distances to access necessary facilities.

“In Lucknow, 23 new shops have been floated and an online lottery procedure is underway. We have considered the distance between existing shops and the population base within that distance. Feedback has been taken from the existing retailers to find out how many localities are being covered and what is the immediate catchment. Localities which hold potential for liquor business have been selected to set up new shops,” said district excise officer of Lucknow, SK Mishra.

Residents of Kanpur, specifically those living in Ispatnagar, Najafgarh, Gaushala (Hamirpur road), Kukri, and other areas, can look forward to some respite. This comes as good news for individuals who enjoy alcoholic beverages, as they will now have easier access to their preferred outlets without the need for extensive travel.

The company officially launched in June 2021, and since then, it has successfully secured approximately $4.5 million in seed funding from Prime Ventures and Zephyr Peacock.

Magicpin, a hyperlocal e-commerce firm, announced on Friday that it has achieved a remarkable milestone on the government-supported ONDC network. The company has recorded a 50% month-on-month growth and successfully crossed the daily order mark of 30,000 on the platform.

Magicpin became a part of the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) approximately nine weeks ago, towards the end of March.

Anshoo Sharma, CEO and Co-Founder of Magicpin, said, “Magicpin within the first four weeks of joining ONDC had scaled from 100 to 10,000 orders. By the fifth week, which was early last month we saw a massive leap to 20,000 daily orders, and now just another 4 weeks on and we have breached the 30,000 orders a day milestone on the network, all that in just 9 weeks of joining the network,”

The e-commerce firm, backed by Lightspeed Venture, received orders through various channels including its own buyer app as well as buyer apps from multiple platforms such as Paytm and PhonePe’s Pincode.

Additionally, the company is actively developing a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform specifically for the ONDC initiative.

“With this SaaS platform, magicpin aims to offer its proprietary technology stack, including tools for digital payments, customer engagement and loyalty programs to SMEs, thus enabling them to compete with larger players in the market,” the company said.
