In order to raise awareness among young Indians, the Center has requested that state governments add a chapter on “prevention of food waste” in the school curricula, the Parliament was informed on Wednesday.
In a written response to a question from the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Food and Consumer Affairs Ashwini Kumar Choubey stated that the government occasionally runs public awareness programmes to raise awareness of food waste through print and electronic media.
In order to raise awareness and sensitize young students about the issue, the central government also recommended states and UTs include a chapter on food waste reduction in their school curricula, the official said.
Additionally, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has introduced a social programme called “Save Food, Share Food” to encourage the donation of extra food and lessen food waste by bringing together various food distribution organizations and other stakeholders.
