Food etiquette and table manners apply whether you’re eating at home or on the go. Do you witness shambles as diners vacate their seats or stumble upon discarded food containers on the sidewalk? When people drop their food, they don’t always bother to pick it up and put it in the trash. We’re repulsed by these actions, but one young boy is about to set a precedent for future generations. There was no need for anyone to tell the boy to clean up his food mess, but he did so anyway to set a good example.
Ashu Singh posted a photo to LinkedIn of a young boy cleaning up the floor of a Delhi Metro rail after his lunchbox fell out of his bag. According to the post, the incident occurred when the boy removed his water bottle from his bag and his tiffin box fell out onto the floor. The young boy diligently put everything in order.
The post is accompanied by the caption, “A young boy in the Delhi Metro dropped his tiffin box, spilling his lunch all over the floor, as he reached into his bag for his water bottle.” The young man tore a sheet from one of his notebooks and swept up all the dropped snacks. “Finally, he got out a handkerchief and restored the floor to its pre-spill condition.”
More than 60k people liked the LinkedIn post, and hundreds more commented on how much they appreciated the boy’s efforts. “Appreciate his civic sense, which is missing with most people living around us,” etc. “It’s in this way that a society can undergo a radical transformation.” It is commendable to spread word of such uplifting acts of kindness and to remind people that taking on such responsibilities is a moral obligation.
