The Ishaqzaade star, Arjun Kapoor, recently appeared in a famous T.V. talk show, ‘Koffee With Karan 6’, where he discussed his weight loss journey, trolling, and how he is feeling now after losing 16 kgs in 15 months. Arjun Kapoor was always in the news for his weight loss issues. Before his debut in Indian Cinema, the actor weighed 140kgs and struggled greatly to get into shape. His hard work and dedication showed results, and he got a few hits in no time. Guess what? He became the talk of the town. But due to some health problems in the past 2-3 years, he again suffers from obesity. As per the dialogue in his new movie ‘Ek Villain 2’, he is seen saying, “Maar De Par Mein Uthta Rahunga Akhri Saans Tak” once again, he came back stronger.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, the Star opened up about his journey. He said, “Before I started, I lost around 50 kgs. I was in my 20s when I went from 143 kgs down to 93 kgs. But ten years later, my body changed. I have had injuries, health issues, workload, etc. But, it’s not that I’m not mentally capable. It might take me longer physically to do it, which is why it has taken me 15 months to get into shape.”
He further added, “I work very hard in the gym. Sometimes, I come home late, around 1 am, but I still go and work out at the gym. I don’t ever stop. I try and work out at least six times a week with my trainer because that’s important for my body type, which is so different from a typical Indian boy”.
In his transformation journey, his trainer, Drew Neal and his food partner Akshay Arora (Neat Meals Company), were with him, supported him and guided him. Drew opened up about Arjun’s journey in an interview with India Today. He said, “In the time Arjun and I have been working together, he has lost 16 kilograms. It is amazing. But, I think I am happier about Arjun’s relationship now with health and fitness. I believe that Arjun will continue to lose weight in the future. As Arjun says, he is a work in progress, and this is a non-stop journey.” He added, “I think it is because he now realises that he will continue to adopt the lifestyle he now has. And health, fitness, training, and nutrition will be a part of his normal day, and that will serve him well. Not only will it help him to lose weight, but it would just make him more buoyant, more energetic, and just a normal healthy human being.”
The founder of Neat Meal Company, Akshay Arora, who has been associated with Kapoor for the past two years, revealed the actor’s diet. He said, “Arjun’s diet consists primarily of four clean meals per day, constituting 1200kcal. He typically eats an egg-based or protein smoothie-based breakfast. His protein-rich breakfast aids in keeping him entire. His lunches are generally well-balanced. For snacks, he eats protein pancakes, protein toast, turkey lettuce wraps, and other foods high in monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) (PUFA). His dinners are typically lower in carbs and higher in fibre and protein”.
Arora said Arjun is also allowed cheat meals; he said,” His cheat meals consist of pizza, Croque monsieur and carbonara pasta, mac n cheese, lamb galouti, and butter chicken”. According to Arora, the actor is not allowed to eat processed foods, refined sugars, refined flour, dairy, highly acidic foods, and goitrogens.
Arjun Kapoor says,” I have some faith in the fact that I have lost 50 kgs in four years, so I know my job is about being healthy, and I have done it in a very clean and reasonable way, so I am obvious that I can do this.”
Where there is a will, there is a way! Many struggles with fluctuating body weight issues because it does not always correspond to their level of effort. Arjun Kapoor faces a similar challenge, but because of a Bollywood actor’s extremely skewed and unrealistic beauty standards, he and his team work hard to keep him in such drastic shape.
