Walmart to offer Indian products in US ahead of Diwali

United States retail giant Walmart announced it is boosting its food and snack product sourcing by adding popular Indian brands like Bikano, Britannia, and Jayanti Spices for the US market before Diwali on Thursday, October 17.

Based in Bentonville, Walmart aims to source $10 billion worth of goods from India yearly by 2027. The new lineup of food and snack products will cater to Diwali celebrations. According to Economic Times, a statement said, “Together, they will supply a diverse range of well-loved snacks and food products to Walmart’s US customers,” adding that “offerings include premium tea, ready-to-eat and frozen foods, traditional snacks, spices, and festive packs.”

Products from leading Indian food companies like Britannia and Bikano will be available this Diwali. Brands such as Regal Kitchen and VAHDAM are already available to Walmart US customers. In addition, Jayanti Spices and Hyfun Foods currently offer products under Walmart’s Great Value brand.

Walmart to import $10 billion annually from India

Meanwhile, Andrea Albright, Walmart’s Executive Vice President of Sourcing, explained, “As part of our goal to increase exports from India to $10 billion per year by 2027, we are excited to bring a taste of India’s rich culture and traditions to our customers in the US during the holiday season and beyond.”

These products from Indian brands are available in Walmart’s US stores, Sam’s Club, and online at Walmart.com. Walmart will sell Britannia products like Bourbon chocolate cream biscuits, Good Day cookies, and Milk Rusk during Diwali. Britannia will also offer family packs in select US stores.

Walmart will introduce two festive packs from Bikano, Abhinandan and Shahi Nazrana, in select US stores this Diwali. “These curated collections feature traditional Indian savouries, mixtures, and sweets such as Soan Papdi and Gulab Jamun,” it said. American retail major further said in a statement that Jayanti Spices, from Coimbatore, has successfully entered the US market under Walmart’s Great Value label, offering spices like onion powder, garlic powder, cinnamon powder, crushed red pepper, parsley flakes, black pepper, and cinnamon sticks, bringing Indian-grown spices to US consumers.

Additionally, Vahdam, a premium brand known for tea, spices, and herbs, is already popular at Walmart. “The brand offers a wide range of spices and powders, including cumin, clove, cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, garlic, onion, amla, and ashwagandha, along with tea products like Turmeric Ashwagandha, Turmeric Ginger, and Turmeric Citrus Ginger and Turmeric Tea variety pack in Walmart stores,” the statement further added.

For the first time, HyFun, a frozen foods brand from Gujarat, is entering the US market. They will offer products like tater tots and seasoned hash browns under the Great Value brand at great prices.
