Raymond Lifestyle to create 9,000 jobs with new store expansion

Raymond Lifestyle, an Indian apparel firm, plans to hire about 9,000 workers for new stores it will open in the next three years, according to Group Chairman Gautam Singhania.

Raymond to hire avg. 10 people for 900 new stores

The company plans to hire an average of 10 people per store for the 900 new outlets it will open, Singhania said on Monday, October 21. He did not reveal the current workforce size at its almost 1,500 stores.

In addition, Raymond Lifestyle will also hire workers for its factories to boost garment production. This comes as Bangladesh, a key apparel hub, faces political unrest and floods. Singhania did not provide further details.

Established in 1925, Raymond’s business includes real estate and engineering. Earlier this year, they separated their lifestyle division to streamline the group, attract more investors, and help the new entity access more capital.

Meanwhile, The firm, which supplies apparel chains like J.C. Penney and Macy’s, is getting many inquiries from global clients. Singhania said, “Brands have decided to move to India to meet their requirements.”

Its garments business, exporting to the US, Europe, and Japan, had sales of 11.39 billion rupees ($135.5 million) last year, making up over a tenth of the group’s revenue. Singhania said Raymond Lifestyle, known for its men’s suits, is looking into the growing fast fashion market in India, noting that Tata Group-owned zudio “has done very well” in this category.

Furthermore, Indian retail firm Trent, which owns Zudio, is doing better than its competitors. Customers looking to update their wardrobes on a budget are flocking to Zudio stores, buying everything from dresses to perfumes for under 999 rupees (about $12).
