Gin is a distilled alcoholic beverage using juniper berries as its main flavouring ingredient. To create aqua vita, monks and alchemists across Europe, particularly in southern Italy, Flanders, and the Netherlands, created gin as a medicinal liqueur using grape and grain distillates. Today, gin is created in a variety of methods using a wide variety of herbal ingredients and giving rise to several unique styles and brands. Gin is frequently used as a foundation liquor to create flavoured gin-based liquors.

These are the most interesting gin brands :

• Hendricks Gin

Hendrick’s is a manually made gin in the Scottish town of Girvan on the southwest coast. They combine eleven botanicals, including juniper, roses, cucumbers and other essentials to make the gin. It is the best gin to use for creating cocktails even if it is more expensive than the majority of other gin brands on the market.

• Tanqueray

Tanqueray is one of the most popular gin brands in the world and is famous for its characteristic green bottle. It’s a great example of London Dry Gin as well as with the perfect balance of juniper, coriander, licorice, and angelica.

• Plymouth Gin

The famous Black Friars Distillery has been making Plymouth Gin since the late eighteenth century. Three traditional gin ingredients juniper, lemon peel, and angelica root are included in the botanical blend of Plymouth Gin.

• Bombay sapphire

One of the oldest gin recipes in the world is the foundation of the smooth gin Bombay Sapphire. Even though it is a widely available and simple-to-drink gin, the quality is not diminished. Botanicals including juniper, licorice and almond are “vapour infused” into the alcohol at the distillery. Bombay Sapphire East, which uses Asian botanicals and Bombay Dry Gin, which uses only 8 botanicals are the other two accessible expressions.

• Beefeater

Beefeater is a traditional London Dry Gin, which first appeared in the 1860s when James Burrough started producing gin in London. Beefeater’s recipe emphasises juniper and citrus flavours. Before distillation, the botanicals are steeped in neutral grain spirit for twenty-four hours. It is one of the most famous gin brands out there.

• Sipsmith

When Sipsmith launched in 2009, it made history by being the first copper pot still distillery to run in London in nearly 2 centuries. It also has the distinction of being a very good modern interpretation of London Dry Gin, with flavours of junipers, orris root, cassia bark and crushed almond among others.
