Post-Lunch Snacks That Won’t Spoil Your Appetite For Dinner

Suppose you had a good lunch but after an hour or so the hunger kicks in again. And this time more ferociously. These are the times when you need a quick snack to satisfy your hunger. As easy as it may sound, it is not easy to find something which is tasty and also quick in making to satisfy your hunger. But don’t worry, here we are to provide you with some quick but delicious recipes to satisfy your post-lunch cravings.

Quick and simple recipes for tasty snacks

  1. Aloo Chat

An easy snack prepared with the main ingredient being a vegetable. Vegetables are not liked by many but here we are talking about potatoes which naturally go with everything and when mixed with spices provides a different taste altogether.

Ingredients-

  • 250 gms Potato
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli
  • 1/2 tsp roasted cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mango powder (amchur powder)
  • 1/2 teaspoon chaat masala
  • Black salt/white salt as per taste
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped mint leaves
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 green chilli (finely chopped)
  • 1 tbsp sweet tamarind chutney
  • 1 to 2 tsp lemon juice

Steps-

  1. Peel the outer skin of the potato and cut them into small pieces.
  2. In the next step, heat oil in the pan and then fry the potatoes on low heat till their colour changes to a golden brown.
  3. In the 3rd step, put them on a napkin to remove excess oil and mix the pieces with all the ingredients mentioned above.
  4. The chat will taste best when it is served hot.

2. Bhel Puri

Who can ignore a delicious plate of Pani puri? One of our favourite street foods mixed with different spices, almost anything can be added to the same.

Ingredients-

  • 2 cups puffed rice
  • 1/2 onion (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 potato (boiled & cubed)
  • 3 papdi (crushed)
  • 3 tbsp mixture
  • 2 tbsp fried peanuts
  • 2 tbsp tomato (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 tsp chaat masala
  • 1/4 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp tamarind chutney
  • 2 tbsp green chutney
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp sev
  • 1 tsp coriander

Steps-

  1. Take a large mixing bowl so that you don’t have to worry about the bhel falling during mixing. Add two cups of puffed rice in it.
  2. In this, add 1/2 onion, 1/2 potato, 3 crushed papdi, 3 tbsp mixture and 2 tbsp fried peanuts, 2 tbsp tomato, 1/2 tsp chaat masala, 1/4 tsp chilli powder, and 1/4 tsp salt,3 tbsp tamarind chutney, 2 tbsp green chutney, 1 tsp lemon juice, and 2 tbsp sev.
  3. Then comes the most important part of mixing everything appropriately. Give it a proper mix. 
  4. After this, you can enjoy the pani puri but before that garnish it with a few crushed papdi, onions, and coriander.

3. Peanut Butter Oatmeal

Well, we all have eaten peanut butter and oatmeal separately but mix them and you get a combination of taste and healthiness.

Ingredients-

  • 1/8 Teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Old-Fashioned Oats
  • 2 Tablespoons Peanut Butter
  • 2 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 2 Tablespoons Honey 

Steps-

  1. The first and foremost step will be to boil water along with some salt in the pan.
  2. After the water has started to boil add the oats in it and give it a continuous stir.
  3. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on medium flame.
  4. Remove it from the heat and mix it with peanut butter, cinnamon and honey in a bowl.
  5. Have a taste of this delicious combination.

4. Grilled Sandwich

We are sure a large number of people have gone for outings to pubs, bistros, etc, and ordered the dish as a tasty snack. You might know that you can make it in the comfort of your home and in a speedy way.

Ingredients-

  • 2 slices brown bread
  • 1 handful of mint leaves
  • 2 pinches salt
  • 1 small tomato
  • 1 medium-boiled potato
  • 1/4 teaspoon chaat masala
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 handful of coriander leaves
  • 2 green chilli
  • 1 medium cucumber
  • 1 small onion
  • 2 tablespoon butter
  • 2 wedges of cheddar cheese
  • Instead of veggies, you can also go for chicken

Steps-

  1. Cut the vegetables or the chicken into round-shaped slices.
  2. Remove the sides of the bread.
  3. Create a layer of each on the bread as mentioned; Butter, green chutney, cucumber, tomato, onion, potato or just add chicken slices instead of the veggies.
  4. After this, add salt and chat masala to it. Next, add a layer of cheese over it consisting of shredded cheese as well as cheese slices.
  5. Finally, grill the sandwich for around 2 to 3 minutes. Cut the pieces and serve hot.

5. Poha

Here’s one of the most munched dishes in India. It can be prepared in under 10 minutes and you would love to have it every time you start getting a hang of it.

Ingredients-

  • 1½ cups poha/flattened rice
  • 1 onion medium
  • 12-14 curry leaves
  • 2 green chilli
  • ¼ cup raw peanuts
  • 1 teaspoon mustard/rai seeds
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 tablespoons refined oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Fresh coriander for garnishing
  • salt to taste

Steps-

  1. First of all, rinse the poha in a sieve. Then in a bowl, add water to it and let it rest for a while.
  2. Simultaneously, on medium flame, roast some peanuts until they turn to a light golden colour (approximately 3 to 4 minutes).
  3. Next, put some mustard seeds in hot and add onion to saute once they start to pop.
  4. Now add some curry leaves and continue to cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
  5. Add turmeric and cook for a minute. Later add the roasted peanuts and the poha. Don’t overmix the poha.
  6. Cover the mix and let it cook for 2 minutes.
  7. Now add fresh coriander, and lemon juice and serve when hot for the best taste
