Keema samosas are a popular snack in South Asian cuisine, made with spiced ground meat, wrapped in crispy pastry, and deep-fried to perfection. When served with a cool and creamy yogurt dip, the result is a delightful flavor explosion that will satisfy your cravings.

But why stop at just the taste? Keema samosas with yogurt dip are also a great way to get some nutritional value from your snack like keema from samosa provides protein rather than the traditional aloo samosa which just contains blank carbs and even the seasoning that ​​is typically spiced with turmeric, cumin, coriander, and other herbs and spices, which have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Here’s how you can make them at home:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ajwain seeds (optional)
  • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Water as needed
  • 1 pound ground beef or lamb
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger paste
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Oil for frying

For the yogurt dip:

  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/2 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • Salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, ajwain seeds, and vegetable oil. Mix well until the mixture becomes crumbly.
  2. Slowly add water to the mixture and knead until the dough comes together. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  3. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the onions and sauté until they are soft and translucent.
  4. Add the minced garlic, ginger paste, green chilies, and cumin seeds. Sauté for a minute.
  5. Add the ground meat and cook until it is browned and cooked through.
  6. Add the coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  7. Divide the dough into small balls and roll them out into circles. Cut each circle in half to make two semi-circles.
  8. Take a semi-circle and fold it into a cone shape, using water to seal the edges. Fill the cone with the meat mixture and seal the top edge with water.
  9. Repeat with the remaining dough and filling.
  10. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the samosas and fry until they are golden brown and crispy.
  11. To make the yogurt dip, whisk together the yogurt, roasted cumin powder, red chili powder, and salt.
  12. Serve the hot keema samosas with the yogurt dip on the side.
