He wrote in the caption, “Loved seeing this Foreigner selling the most popular ‘Indian Bhelpuri’ on the streets in the United Kingdom.”

And added,”For my Non-Indian friends – Bhelpuri is a savoury snack originating from India, and is also a type of chaat. It is made of puffed rice, vegetables and a tangy tamarind sauce, and has a crunchy texture.”

Denoon was immediately smitten with the flavors of jhalmuri and decided to start selling it himself. He opened his own jhalmuri food stall in London, which he named Jhalmuri Express. The stall quickly gained popularity among locals and visitors alike, as Denoon’s passion for the dish was infectious.

Recently, Ravi Nair, President of the US-India Importers’ Council (USIIC) and CEO of the Rich Minds Centre of Excellence, spotted Denoon’s stall and was impressed by his dedication to the dish. Nair shared a video of Denoon making jhalmuri, which has helped to raise the dish’s profile even further.

For the Syrup:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • 1 tablespoon rose water

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, semolina, sugar, and cardamom powder. Mix well.
  2. Add in the yogurt and milk, and mix to form a smooth, slightly sticky dough.
  3. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let the dough rest for 30 minutes.
  4. In a deep saucepan or frying pan, heat the oil on medium heat.
  5. Divide the dough into small balls (about 1 inch in diameter) and flatten them slightly.
  6. Fry the flattened dough balls in the hot oil until they turn golden brown and crispy. Drain them on paper towels.
  7. In a separate saucepan, combine the sugar and water to make the syrup. Bring it to a boil, then simmer for 5-7 minutes until it thickens slightly.
  8. Turn off the heat and add the cardamom powder and rose water to the syrup. Stir well.
  9. Place the fried malpuri in the syrup and let them soak for 30 minutes or until they become soft and moist.

  • 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder (lal mirch powder)
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder (haldi)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Water, as needed
  • Oil, for frying

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, semolina, carom seeds, cumin seeds, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, and salt.
  2. Add water little by little and knead the dough until it forms a smooth and firm ball. Cover the dough and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
  3. After the dough has rested, divide it into small lemon-sized balls.
  4. Take one ball of dough and roll it out into a thin circle using a rolling pin. Repeat with the remaining dough balls.
  5. Using a fork, prick the rolled-out dough circles all over to prevent them from puffing up while frying.
  6. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
  7. Once the oil is hot, carefully drop a few of the rolled-out dough circles into the oil and fry until they turn golden brown and crispy.
  8. Remove the fried puris from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  9. Repeat with the remaining rolled-out dough circles.
  10. Once all the puris are fried and cooled down, store them in an airtight container.

To serve, sprinkle some chaat masala or sev on top of the Crispy Masala Puri and enjoy it as a tasty snack with chutney or dip of your choice.
