Effective from July 1, pilgrims will be unable to consume deep-fried and fast-food items, as well as sweets such as jalebi, during their journey. (Representative Image)

The Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board, the governing body overseeing the organization of the Amarnath Yatra, has made the decision to prohibit certain food items from the pilgrimage menu due to potential health risks for the pilgrims. Effective from July 1, pilgrims will be unable to consume deep-fried and fast-food items, as well as sweets such as jalebi, during their journey. This measure is aimed at safeguarding the well-being of the pilgrims throughout their Yatra experience.

Popular food items such as halwa, jalebi, gulab jamun, ladoos, barfi, and rasgullas have been excluded from the food menu, along with crunchy snacks that are rich in fat and salt. Pilgrims will no longer have access to well-known items like Kurkure, namkeen mixtures, pakoras, and samosas. Additionally, dishes like chhola-bhatura, pooris, pizza, burgers, dosas, and chowmein will also be prohibited from consumption.

In order to ensure the well-being of pilgrims and service providers during the challenging 14-kilometer long trek through high altitudes and steep mountainous terrain, a comprehensive food menu has been developed for Langar organizations, food stalls, shops, and other establishments operating in the Yatra area. The objective is to discourage the availability of “unhealthy” food items that could be detrimental to the health of the pilgrims. By offering a carefully curated food selection, the aim is to encourage pilgrims to make healthier dietary choices throughout their journey.

The approved food items for consumption during the pilgrimage include steamed rice and light options such as roasted chana, poha, uthappam, idli, dal-roti, and chocolate. Additionally, pilgrims are permitted to have kheer, oats, dry fruits, honey, and boiled sweets as part of their dietary choices throughout the journey.

The registration process for visiting the sacred Amarnath temple will commence on July 1, 2023. Located in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the temple holds significant religious importance. The Amarnath Yatra spans a duration of 62 days, starting from July 1 and concluding on August 31, 2023. Pilgrims will have the opportunity to embark on this spiritual journey during this designated period.

The registration process for the pilgrimage offers both online and offline options for individuals to choose from. Pilgrims can conveniently register through the online portal or avail themselves of the offline channels. To facilitate the registration procedure, there are 542 bank locations spread across the country, providing easy access for pilgrims to complete their registration formalities. This ensures a seamless and accessible process for individuals interested in undertaking the pilgrimage.

McDonald’s has continually relied on innovation as a fundamental strategy to attract customers to its outlets worldwide. However, there are instances when company strategies, particularly in areas like advertising, can generate criticism from the public. Recently, McDonald’s posted an advertisement on their social media platforms depicting a man purchasing a meal and a female staff member delivering the food to him.

The advertisement portrays a scenario where both the man and the woman exchange meaningful glances, suggesting the possibility of a budding love story. Shortly thereafter, the man is seen standing in line once again, eagerly anticipating the opportunity to approach the woman and strike up a conversation.

“Sometimes, the greatest love stories start with the tiniest things – a glance, a smile, a meal. Watch this unusual date and find out how a meal can give you #MoreForLess at just Rs.179! Visit a McDonald’s near you and get McVeggie Meals @ Rs.179,” McDonald’s wrote in their tweet with the video.

The advertisement received significant backlash, with many questioning the rationale behind its creation. Numerous critical responses were triggered by the ad, as people raised doubts about the concept behind its production.

First Global Chairperson and Managing Director Devina Mehra replied to the ad on Twitter, asking who was behind its approval.

“This is outrageous and disgusting beyond words

Pioneer Foods, a subsidiary of PepsiCo, has announced its intention to fully acquire Future Life Health Products, a South African nutritional cereal maker, by purchasing the remaining 50% stake.

PepsiCo South Africa has disclosed that the transaction is expected to be finalized during the first week of July, pending the fulfillment of a few remaining administrative conditions. The company has stated that these conditions are standard for a transaction of this kind.

In 2015, Pioneer Foods purchased a 50% stake in Future Life Health, and now they are preparing to acquire the remaining 50% stake held by Future Life founder Paul Saad. The specific amount involved in the transaction has not been publicly disclosed.

Future Life, established in 2007, is best known for its flagship product called Future Life Smart Food. This nutritionally balanced and scientifically formulated convenient food contains Moducare and was developed with the aim of providing a healthy and convenient dietary option.

Moducare, as described by PepsiCo, is a daily immune supplement created using a patented blend of plant sterols and sterolins. Future Life, which initially focused on its flagship product, Future Life Smart Food, has expanded its offerings to include a variety of cereals and breakfast bars.

Riaan Heyl, the CEO of PepsiCo South Africa, said, “Future Life is an innovative brand within the cereals market, and we believe its product basket will complement our current portfolio. Upon closing of the transaction, we look forward to welcoming the Future Life employees into PepsiCo.

“This will also mean that qualifying employees will be entitled to participate in our employee share ownership scheme, the Bašumi Trust”, he added.

PepsiCo completed the acquisition of Pioneer Foods in 2020, following approval from a UK competition authority. This came after PepsiCo’s bid to purchase Pioneer Foods, which was valued at approximately $1.7 billion at the time, in July 2019. The acquisition allowed PepsiCo, the owner of brands such as Frito-Lay and Quaker, to expand its presence in the market.
