Troo Good, a leading millet-based snack company, has set its sights on generating INR 100 crore in revenue this fiscal year. The company’s top executive has emphasized their strategy of expanding production capacity, introducing new product offerings, and establishing a pan-India presence as the driving forces behind this ambitious target.

Raju Bhupati, CEO of Troo Good, said, “Troo Good, which was established in 2018 to offer wholesome and high-quality snacks at affordable price, clocked INR 53 crore revenue in 2022-23. We aim to establish Troo Good as a pan-India nutritional food brand over the next few years.”

Troo Good’s daily sales reach an impressive range of 1.5 to 2 million chikki bars, with the primary focus on their flagship product, millet chikkis, available at the affordable price points of INR 5 and INR 10.

According to Bhupati, the company currently distributes its products in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh. However, they have ambitious plans to expand their presence throughout the entire country and aim to achieve pan-India coverage within this fiscal year.

“We are planning to set up two more manufacturing units – one in Chhattisgarh and one either in Haryana or Karnataka. To maintain the affordable pricing of our snacks, we source most raw materials locally and employ local people.

“Around 90 percent of the total employees working in the manufacturing units are local women and each factory employs over 50 people taking the total headcount to around 300,” he said.

The company presently operates four manufacturing units situated in Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana. These units employ a dedicated workforce of 300 individuals and have a collective production capacity of 25,000 kilograms of chikkis per day.

“We are present in about 30,000 outlets, like kirana stores to your modern formats, across the country and in about 20,000-25,000 schools, providing a nutritious alternative for the children in their canteen.

“We recently signed with police canteens. We also signed up with Jan Aushadi, to be present in all the Jan Aushadi stores, medical stores, and the largest pharma, which is also there across India,” he said.

In November 2021, the Hyderabad-based startup managed to secure funding of USD 8.4 million. The majority of the funding, USD 7.4 million, was raised from OAKS Asset Management, while the remaining USD 1 million came from venture capitalist and philanthropist Sashi Reddi and his family.

“We will be utilising the funds raised for setting up new manufacturing units and adding new products like millet-based noodles and cookies,” he said.

Besides the domestic market, the company will commence exporting to the United Arab Emirates from this financial year.

“We are planning to export to the UAE markets. We have already launched our products in Dubai on a pilot basis. We expect to export to the UAE market from August onwards,” he added.

This year has been internationally recognized as the International Year of Millet, highlighting the significance of this humble grain on a global scale. Furthermore, the Indian government has also identified millets as a viable long-term solution to tackle the pressing issues of food and water resource management within the country.

“We are also closely working with the government and the Niti Aayog on many initiatives to create more awareness on the benefits of millets.

“We will roll out our first advertisement in September-October. We are connected with Self Help Groups (SHGs) and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) for recruitment as well as for procurement of raw materials, respectively. We also give revenue share to the SHG women,” Bhupati added.

In this article, we will explore top 10 rum varieties that will elevate your cocktails to new heights.

Top 10 Rum Varieties for Cocktails

  1. Rhum Agricole: Hailing from the French Caribbean, rhum agricole is made from fresh sugarcane juice instead of molasses. This variety boasts a grassy and herbal flavor profile, adding a unique twist to tropical cocktails.
  1. Gold Rum: Known for its amber hue and medium-bodied character, gold rum offers a balance between the lightness of white rum and the depth of dark rum. It is an excellent choice for cocktails that require a bit more complexity.
  1. Dark Rum: With its deep, molasses-forward flavors and dark color, dark rum imparts richness and depth to cocktails. It pairs exceptionally well with tropical fruits and spices, making it a staple in classics like the Dark and Stormy.
  1. Aged Rum: Aged rum undergoes maturation in oak barrels, absorbing flavors and developing complexity over time. The result is a smooth and mellow spirit, perfect for sipping neat or adding depth to sophisticated cocktails.

These humble grains, packed with nutrients and praised for their fiber content, have become a breakfast staple for those seeking a healthy diet or weight loss. However, the question lingers: Are oats actually healthy for breakfast? Let’s embark on a captivating exploration of the pros and cons of oats, unraveling the truth behind this widely acclaimed morning meal.

The Tug of War: Pros and Cons of Oats for Breakfast

As with any dietary decision, there are always two sides to the coin. While oats are generally safe and well-tolerated by most individuals, there are exceptions to the rule. It is crucial to understand when consuming oats can have adverse effects, outweighing their potential benefits.

  • Gluten Sensitivity or Celiac Disease: A Delicate Balance

Oats, in their purest form, are naturally gluten-free. However, there is a risk of gluten contamination during processing. For individuals with gluten sensitivity or celiac disease, consuming oats that are not explicitly labeled as gluten-free can be problematic. To avoid potential cross-contamination, it is essential to choose certified gluten-free oats, which undergo rigorous processing and testing to meet strict gluten-free standards.

  • The Elusive Oat Allergy: A Rarity to Beware

While rare, some individuals may have an allergy to oats. This allergy can manifest in various forms, such as digestive issues, skin reactions, or respiratory symptoms. If you experience adverse symptoms after consuming oats, it is advisable to consult with a healthcare professional to determine if an oat allergy is the culprit.

  • Navigating Digestive Issues: The Fiber Factor

Oats are renowned for their fiber content, which is generally beneficial for digestive health. However, individuals with specific digestive conditions, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), may find that high-fiber foods like oats can trigger uncomfortable symptoms such as bloating, gas, or abdominal discomfort. In such cases, moderation or exploring lower-fiber alternatives may be the recommended course of action.

  • Personal Sensitivities and Intolerances: Unraveling the Individual Puzzle

The human body is a complex mosaic, and sometimes, certain individuals may have personal sensitivities or intolerances to specific components within oats. For instance, avenin, a protein found in oats, may cause discomfort or adverse reactions in some individuals. If you experience any unfavorable responses after consuming oats, consulting with a healthcare professional can help unveil the underlying cause and guide your dietary choices.

Unlocking the Benefits of Oats for Breakfast

With the potential pitfalls carefully examined, it’s time to shift our focus to the bright side—the myriad benefits that oats can offer for breakfast enthusiasts. By selecting the right kind of oats—free from excess sugar, salt, preservatives, and additives—breakfast becomes a gateway to a treasure trove of advantages.

  • The Fiber Fountain: Promoting Digestive Health

Oats boast an exceptional fiber content, comprising both soluble and insoluble fibers. Of particular interest is beta-glucan, a soluble fiber found in oats, which has been linked to numerous health benefits. These include reduced cholesterol levels, improved heart health, enhanced digestion, stabilized blood sugar levels, and increased satiety, aiding in weight management.

  • Nutrient Nirvana: A Wholesome Powerhouse

Oats are not just a one-trick pony; they shine bright as a nutrient-rich powerhouse. They offer a host of essential nutrients, including manganese, phosphorus, magnesium, copper, iron, zinc, and B vitamins. Additionally, oats contain avenanthramides, antioxidants with anti-inflammatory and heart-protective properties. By incorporating oats into your breakfast routine, you provide your body with a wide array of vital nutrients.

  • The Energy Elixir: A Slow-Burning Sustenance

Thanks to their low glycemic index (GI), oats provide a slow and steady release of glucose into the bloodstream. This sustained energy release keeps blood sugar levels stable, provides long-lasting energy throughout the morning, and helps curb cravings and overeating.

  • A Canvas for Creativity: Versatile and Adaptable

Oats are like a blank canvas, ready to be transformed into culinary delights that suit various tastes and dietary preferences. Whether you savor a warm bowl of oatmeal, indulge in overnight oats, blend them into smoothies, incorporate them into baking recipes, or shape them into delectable granola bars, oats offer endless possibilities. This versatility allows you to create a balanced and enjoyable breakfast routine tailored to your preferences.

Final Thoughts: Weighing the Oats

So are oats actually healthy for breakfast? The answer lies within the intricate web of personal health circumstances, dietary restrictions, and individual tolerances. While oats offer a multitude of benefits for those without gluten sensitivity, oat allergies, digestive issues, or personal sensitivities, it is essential to approach oat consumption mindfully. By selecting oats free from harmful additives and considering your specific health needs, oats can indeed be a nourishing addition to your breakfast repertoire. As always, seeking personalized advice from healthcare professionals or registered dietitians will help you make informed decisions tailored to your unique requirements. So, as you ponder your breakfast choices, remember that the oats you choose today can set the course for a healthier tomorrow.

zero-calorie beverages

Zero-calorie beverages have gained tremendous popularity in recent years, driven by the rising health-consciousness of consumers and the desire to maintain a balanced diet. These drinks promise to provide a refreshing experience without adding any extra calories to one’s daily intake. However, it is essential to question whether they truly live up to their claims and whether they offer more benefits than potential drawbacks. This article aims to delve into the world of zero-calorie beverages, exploring their allure, benefits and drawbacks. By understanding these aspects, health-savvy consumers can make informed choices that align with their dietary goals and overall well-being.

The Allure of Zero-Calorie Beverages

Zero-calorie beverages have a significant appeal due to their promise of guilt-free indulgence. With the increasing concern over obesity and diabetes worldwide, including India, consumers are actively seeking ways to reduce their sugar intake without sacrificing taste. Zero-calorie drinks, often sweetened with artificial sweeteners or natural sugar substitutes, claim to offer the same satisfying flavor as regular beverages but without the added calories.

Moreover, zero-calorie beverages cater to the growing health-conscious population in India, providing a convenient and easy way to stay on track with their diet without compromising on taste. These drinks often become a go-to choice for individuals who want to quench their thirst while maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

The Benefits of Zero-Calorie Beverages

  • Weight Management: One of the primary advantages of zero-calorie beverages is their potential to aid in weight management. By replacing high-calorie, sugar-laden drinks with zero-calorie alternatives, individuals can reduce their overall calorie intake, which may help in maintaining or losing weight. For those striving to shed extra pounds or control their weight, zero-calorie beverages can be a valuable tool in their dietary arsenal.
  • Blood Sugar Control: Individuals with diabetes or those at risk of developing the condition often need to monitor their sugar intake closely. Zero-calorie beverages provide a safer option for these individuals, as they do not cause a spike in blood sugar levels. By consuming these drinks, individuals can enjoy a refreshing beverage without negatively impacting their blood sugar levels.
  • Dental Health: Regular consumption of sugary beverages can lead to tooth decay and other dental issues. Zero-calorie beverages, devoid of sugar, do not contribute to these problems, making them a suitable choice for maintaining dental health. By opting for zero-calorie alternatives, individuals can protect their teeth while enjoying a satisfying beverage.

The Drawbacks of Zero-Calorie Beverages

  • Artificial Sweeteners: Many zero-calorie beverages contain artificial sweeteners, such as aspartame, sucralose, and saccharin, to provide the desired flavor without the added calories. While these sweeteners are approved for use by regulatory authorities, concerns have been raised about their long-term safety. Some studies suggest a potential link between artificial sweeteners and adverse health effects. Additionally, certain individuals may experience side effects such as headaches or digestive issues after consuming artificial sweeteners. It is important for consumers to be aware of these potential risks and make an informed decision based on their personal health considerations.
  • Overconsumption: The absence of calories in zero-calorie beverages can lead some people to overconsume them, mistakenly believing that they can drink as much as they want without any consequences. However, excessive consumption of any beverage, even those with no calories, can lead to an imbalance in one’s diet and contribute to other health issues. It is crucial for individuals to exercise moderation and ensure a well-rounded diet that includes a variety of nutrients.
  • Taste: Zero-calorie beverages strive to replicate the taste of their sugary counterparts, but some consumers may find the flavor to be lacking or artificial. This can make it difficult for individuals to fully enjoy these drinks as a satisfying alternative to regular beverages. Taste preferences vary among individuals, and it is important to find a zero-calorie beverage that suits one’s palate to fully embrace its benefits.
  • Potential Impact on Appetite: Research suggests that consuming zero-calorie beverages may lead to an increased appetite. The body may not register artificial sweeteners as a source of energy, potentially causing individuals to experience hunger pangs and cravings, which can ultimately lead to overeating and weight gain. This phenomenon can undermine the initial goal of choosing a zero-calorie beverage for weight management. It is essential to be mindful of the potential impact on appetite and adjust consumption accordingly.

Final Thoughts:

The decision to consume zero-calorie beverages should be based on personal preference, health goals, and a comprehensive understanding of the potential benefits, drawbacks, and environmental impact. These beverages can be a suitable choice for individuals looking to reduce their sugar intake, manage their weight, or maintain dental health. However, it is crucial to be mindful of the potential risks associated with artificial sweeteners, the need for moderation in consumption, and the impact on appetite. By staying informed and making conscious choices, health-conscious individuals can strike a balance between personal well-being and environmental responsibility.
