Domino’s India has recently launched a new pizza delivery service in Bengaluru, the second slowest city in the world to drive in. The service promises to deliver pizzas within 20 minutes from any of the 170 outlets located across the city. This move is an expansion of the pilot program launched in 14 cities in December 2022. The announcement by Jubilant FoodWorks, which is the master franchise of Domino’s in India, is aimed at improving the brand’s delivery services and customer experience.

The introduction of the 20-minute delivery service is an innovative move by the company in a market that is becoming increasingly competitive. The announcement comes after Zomato Instant’s 10-minute delivery service was withdrawn in January 2023, within a year of its launch. The 20-minute delivery service is expected to be made possible through the use of analytics, insights, and technology. The company is also planning to open several more outlets in the city to ensure rapid delivery.

Bengaluru, despite being the second slowest city in the world to drive in, is an ideal location for this project due to its high store density. In 2022, Bengaluru was named the second slowest city in the world to drive in, after London, by Dutch navigation and digital mapping company TomTom’s Traffic Index. The company’s CEO, Pratik Khetarpal, acknowledged the city’s traffic and infrastructure challenges but expressed confidence that the company’s high store density in the city will mitigate these challenges.

The launch of the 20-minute delivery service is part of Jubilant FoodWorks’ strategy to boost sales and improve profitability. The company reported a 36% fall in net profit for the quarter ended December 31, 2022, with sales remaining almost flat. The company has also trimmed its retail sales growth outlook for the next two to three years to 4-8% from its previous forecast of 6-10%. However, Khetarpal, who took over as CEO of the franchisee in May 2022, said the company was undertaking several measures to mitigate the influence of external factors.

Domino’s is also planning to launch the 20-minute delivery service in seven more major cities within the next 12 months. The move is expected to give the company an edge over its competitors and help it to retain its position as one of the leading pizza delivery companies in India. Despite concerns about driver safety and traffic rule violations, the company is optimistic that it can provide fast and efficient delivery services while ensuring the safety of its delivery executives and other road users.
