ONDC onboards over 6 lakh sellers, enables 1.2 Cr orders per month

Published:

The government-run Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) is currently facilitating over 1.2 crore orders each month, with more than six lakh sellers active on the platform.

ONDC received the prestigious gold award for ‘Application of Emerging Technologies in Citizen-Centric Services’ at the National Awards for e-Governance (NAeG) ceremony.

Empowering Diverse Sellers:

The network is empowering a wide variety of sellers, including lakhs of small businesses, artisans, women entrepreneurs, farmers, and street vendors, enabling them to compete effectively and reach a broader audience.

According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, “ONDC operates with a startup mindset and a government-scale approach, adapting swiftly to changing market dynamics. It is driven by a team of technocrats and guided by the experienced ONDC Advisory Council.”

With its interoperable, unbundled, and decentralised design, ONDC breaks down a complex system into discrete microservices that different players can offer separately, resulting in positive outcomes for all. This architecture fosters trust in the e-commerce ecosystem.

ONDC is enhancing its capabilities to achieve deeper and more extensive integration with key government platforms.

The ministry added, “ONDC will enable inter-locks and linkages across government platforms to serve a common set of beneficiaries and achieve unified objectives.” In July, ONDC reached 430,000 daily orders.

Expansion and New Categories:

The Network operates in over 609 cities and delivers to 1,200 cities nationwide. In July, ONDC introduced a new category for auto components and accessories, featuring sellers like Ess Aay Automotive (Hero Genuine).

ONDC recorded a 21 per cent month-on-month increase in transactions, reaching 12 million in July compared to 10 million in June. On June 30, during the T20 World Cup finals, the network processed 374,000 orders in a single day.
