To donate raw materials for desks, hundreds of Mumbai residents participated in a recycling campaign. These workstations are constructed from used carton packaging. They were given to the school as part of the Cartons2Classroom programme, which was started by Tetra Pak last year in collaboration with Nestle +, Reliance Retail, and RUR Greenlife.
The campaign’s main goal is to recycle over 100,000 discarded packaging, such Tetra Pak cartons, into 100 desks for schools with less financial resources. Mahim Police Colony School received a set of 30 tables in 2022.
According to V. Subramaniam, director of Reliance Retail, “We have been a part of the Cartons2Classroom journey and the bigger social awareness journey together with Tetra Pak and RUR Greenlife since 2010 and I could not be more pleased of what we are producing for our future generations. These desks are but one illustration of the influence recycling can have, not just on us personally but also on society as a whole.
The “Cartons2Classroom” campaign is a component of the “Go Green with Tetra Pak” initiative, which was introduced in 2010 by Tetra Pak in partnership with Reliance Retail and RUR Greenlife. With the help of the scheme, Mumbai residents are encouraged to drop off their used beverage cartons at more than 57 Reliance Smart and Sahakari Bhandar locations around Mumbai. After being recycled, these cartons are turned into useful products like garden seats and tables and given back to society.
