Bisleri International, founded in Mumbai in 1965, is a leading Indian bottled water company with a strong presence in over 100 countries worldwide. The company has a diverse portfolio of brands, including Bisleri, Vedica, and Urzza, among others. Ramesh Chauhan, the founder of Bisleri, is a well-known Indian entrepreneur who is credited with pioneering the bottled water industry in India. His daughter, Jayanti Chauhan, has been involved in the family business for several years, and her appointment as the leader of Bisleri comes at a crucial time for the company.
Tata Consumer Products Ltd (TCPL), one of the largest consumer goods companies in India, had expressed interest in acquiring Bisleri International two years ago. However, negotiations between the two companies stalled, and TCPL ultimately decided not to pursue the acquisition. The decision was a significant setback for Bisleri International, which had been exploring the possibility of a sale as a way to raise capital and expand its operations.
Chairman Ramesh Chauhan, said, “Jayanti will run the company with our professional team and we do not want to sell the business.”
The fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) arm of the Tata Group ,said,”The company wishes to update that it has now ceased negotiations with Bisleri with regard to a potential transaction and to confirm that the company has not entered into any definitive agreement or binding commitment on this matter.”
With the buyout no longer on the table, Bisleri International’s promoters have decided to entrust Jayanti Chauhan with the responsibility of leading the company. As the vice chairperson of the company, she has been actively involved in the business and has played a key role in the development of the Vedica brand, which has been well-received in the market.
Jayanti Chauhan will work closely with the professional management team at Bisleri, which is led by CEO Angelo George. George, who joined the company in 2019, has extensive experience in the consumer goods industry and has been instrumental in driving Bisleri’s growth in recent years. Under his leadership, the company has launched several new products and has expanded its distribution network.
Despite the setback with TCPL, Bisleri International remains a formidable player in the Indian bottled water market. The company has a strong brand reputation and a loyal customer base, and its products are known for their quality and purity. With Jayanti Chauhan at the helm, the company is well-positioned to capitalize on new growth opportunities and to continue its success in the years to come.
