IHCL Partners Tata Steel to Skill up Rural Youth; Establishes a skill centre in Jamshedpur

Published:

The Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), one of the leading hotel chains in India, has announced its collaboration with Tata Steel Long Products Ltd (TSLPL) to establish a specialized skill center in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. This initiative aims to provide skill-based training to rural youths and equip them with the necessary knowledge and abilities to succeed in the service industry.

The skill center will provide training on essential themes in the service industry, such as customer service, communication, personal grooming, and other related skills. The curriculum has been carefully designed to cater to the needs of the industry and ensure that the students are equipped with the skills required for their future careers.

Gaurav Pokhariyal, executive vice-president, Human Resources, IHCL said, “Jharkhand is an important state with growing commercial and tourism potential. Skill building is one of the key initiatives of IHCL’s ESG + framework of Paathya. We are delighted to partner with Tata Steel Long Products Ltd towards building the talent pool for the industry and nurturing the hospitality leaders of tomorrow.”

Mukesh Agarwal, chief people officer, Tata Steel Long Products Ltd (TSLPL), said, “Tata Steel Long Products Ltd has always been committed to Saraikela-Jamshedpur. We believe there is a tremendous opportunity to leverage the untapped potential of the talent in the region. We are happy to be associated with IHCL, the hospitality industry leaders and look forward to positively impacting many lives.”

The first batch of students has already commenced their training at the Skill Center located in the industrial area of Gamharia. The batch comprises 30 students, of which 85 percent are women candidates. The 45-day Bridge Program is designed to cover the fundamentals, such as communication and personality skills, body language, and grooming. The program also provides live work experience through industrial visits, enabling the students to apply their skills in real-world scenarios.

The partnership between IHCL and TSLPL brings together the expertise of both organizations to support the youth in the region. IHCL will serve as the knowledge partner, sharing its expertise and knowledge of the service industry with the students. TSLPL will provide financial support for the program, and Head Held High Foundation (HHHF) will act as the implementing partner, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the skill center.

This unique initiative aims to provide a platform for the youth to develop skills that will enable them to succeed in their careers, increase their employability, and contribute to the growth of the service industry in the region. The partnership is an excellent example of how the private sector can collaborate to create a positive impact on society by providing training and employment opportunities to the underprivileged sections of society.
