Man finds rat in bread he ordered on Grocery Delivery app BlinkIt; Company responds

Published:

Food and grocery delivery apps have become a lifesaver for many of us, providing convenient access to the essentials we need without the hassle of leaving the house. But for one individual, this convenience turned into a nightmare when he received a rat with his order.

Nitin Arora recently placed an order on Blinkit, an instant grocery delivery app, for a packet of bread. When he received his delivery, he was horrified to find that a live rat was moving inside the bread packet. Outraged, he immediately took to Twitter to share a post about the experience, tagging Blinkit and using the hashtag #blinkit. The post quickly went viral and was met with strong reactions from the public.

In the post, Nitin shared a screenshot of his chat with the Blinkit customer care executive, who reached out to him after the post gained attention. The company apologized for the incident and stated that they take the concern seriously. They also asked for Nitin’s contact details and order number so they could carry out a further investigation.

However, this wasn’t the only complaint against Blinkit. Other users commented on the post, sharing similar experiences of receiving rotten or stale goods and poor customer service. One person even claimed to have visited the store where the orders were dispatched and found that it was in a state of disarray, full of garbage and insects.

The post grabbed Blinkit’s attention as well. The company instantly apologised for the incident and said that the “concern is genuine”. They further took to the comments section to write, “Hi Nitin, this is not the experience we wanted you to have”, and asked for his contact details and order number for further enquiry.

Dhananjay Shashidharan, Head of Customer Delight at Blinkit, replied that they took serious note of the incident and de-listed the partner store. “I want to assure you, we’ve taken swift action already and de-listed the partner store, even as we are investigating the matter with the store owner. We have high standards for hygiene at all our stores, and with this incident, we have increased the frequency of audits at the store networks,” he said.

These experiences with Blinkit have led some people to question the safety and quality of the products delivered by such apps. With the rise of instant delivery and the convenience it provides, companies like Blinkit need to prioritize customer satisfaction and ensure that the products delivered are safe for consumption. Until these concerns are addressed, it seems that using such services may come with its own set of risks.
