Tea time is an important part of our daily routine, especially in India. High tea is a perfect way to take a break from the busy schedule, relax and recharge with some tasty snacks. If you are planning to host a tea party at your home or invite your friends over, then you must try these scrumptious poha cutlets. These cutlets are not only easy to make, but they are also healthy and delicious.

What are Poha Cutlets?

Poha cutlets are made using flattened rice, also known as poha, mixed with boiled potatoes, vegetables, and spices. They are then shaped into cutlets and shallow-fried until they are crispy and golden brown. These cutlets are perfect as an evening snack or as a starter for any party.

Ingredients Required:

To make these mouth-watering poha cutlets, you will need the following ingredients:

  • Poha/Flattened Rice – 2 cups
  • Potatoes – 2 medium-sized
  • Onion – 1 small, finely chopped
  • Green Chilies – 2-3, finely chopped
  • Coriander Leaves – 1 tablespoon, finely chopped
  • Salt – as per taste
  • Turmeric Powder – 1/4th teaspoon
  • Red Chili Powder – 1/4th teaspoon
  • Garam Masala Powder – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Bread Crumbs – 1/2 cup
  • Oil – for shallow frying

Recipe:

Step-by-Step Method:

  1. Rinse the poha in water for a few seconds and drain the water. Keep it aside for 10-15 minutes to allow it to soften.
  2. Boil the potatoes until they are soft and tender. Peel and mash them.
  3. In a mixing bowl, add the mashed potatoes, softened poha, chopped onion, green chilies, coriander leaves, salt, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and garam masala powder. Mix well to form a dough-like mixture.
  4. Divide the mixture into small portions and shape them into cutlets.
  5. Roll the cutlets in breadcrumbs to coat them evenly.
  6. Heat oil in a shallow pan and add the cutlets. Fry the cutlets until they are golden brown on both sides.
  7. Once they are cooked, remove them from the pan and place them on a kitchen towel to absorb excess oil.

Serving Suggestion:

These delicious poha cutlets can be served with mint chutney or tomato ketchup. You can also serve them with hot tea or coffee as an evening snack or as a starter for any party.

Poha cutlets are a perfect snack for tea time. They are not only easy to make but also healthy and delicious. The best part about these cutlets is that they can be customized as per your taste. You can add more vegetables, spices or even cheese to make them even more flavorful.
