Yulu, an Indian electric bike-sharing startup, has announced a partnership with Zomato, one of India’s leading food delivery platforms. As part of this partnership, Yulu will provide Zomato’s delivery partners with 25,000 to 35,000 units of their electric scooter model, the DeX, on customized rental plans.

The e-scooters provided by Yulu are purpose-built for last-mile delivery, making them an ideal choice for Zomato’s delivery partners. The partnership aims to address the rising fuel prices and financial challenges faced by young people who want to become delivery partners. With Yulu’s flexible rental packages, delivery partners can rent the electric scooters at affordable rates and earn higher earnings compared to using internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.

Pradeep Puranam, Head of Revenue and Operations, said, “With Yulu’s deep understanding of the delivery ecosystem, purpose-built product DeX, robust operations and a wide network of battery swapping stations, our solutions can improve earnings of delivery partners by up to 40 per cent.”

Mohit Sardana, COO, Food Delivery at Zomato, said,”As part of The Climate Group’s EV100 initiative, we have committed to transitioning our delivery fleet to 100 percent electric, and with Yulu’s support, we are glad to be on the right path to achieve this target.”

Once deployed, Yulu’s e-scooters have the potential to facilitate up to 300,000 green deliveries per day by 2026, according to Yulu’s statement on Monday. This could have a significant impact on reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable last-mile delivery.

As of February 2023, Yulu has reported that over 4,000 delivery partners have been onboarded organically on Zomato’s platform and are utilizing Yulu’s electric vehicles for last-mile deliveries. This highlights the growing demand for sustainable and affordable last-mile delivery solutions in India.

The partnership between Yulu and Zomato aims to promote sustainable and affordable last-mile delivery solutions while addressing the financial challenges faced by young people who want to become delivery partners.

By offering flexible rental packages and purpose-built electric scooters, the partnership has the potential to make a significant impact on reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable last-mile delivery in India.
